Hong Kong, February 16 – Catbird has always enjoyed plenty of success in Hong Kong and featured on Sunday at Sha Tin with a winning double courtesy of Danzulu and Express Win.

The David Hall trained four year-old Danzulu struck first when scoring a narrow victory in the Class Four event over 1400 metres, storming home late to snare his second win from just six starts.

A half-brother to Group One STC BMW Stakes winner Grand Zulu, Danzulu was retained to race by his breeder Dr Choy and sent to Hong Kong in August of 2007.

Danzulu is the fourth living foal and fourth winner for the Military Plume mare Bravo Zulu, a Group One placed half-sister to stakes-winner Shalt Not, the dam of freakish filly Amelia’s Dream, the unbeaten winner of the Group Two STC Silver Slipper Stakes last season.

Saluting in the very next race was former Australian Group Two winning juvenile Diego Garcia, who has also proven successful in Hong Kong under the name of Express Win.

Now trained by Dennis Yip, Express Win charged home with a wet sail and in a head bobbing finish nosed out the heavily backed runner-up Collection to take the 1400 metre Class One event by a short head.

Bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park, Express Win was originally purchased by Gai Waterhouse for $210,000 at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, the son of Catbird winning three of his first four starts including the Group Two STC Todman Stakes.

His overall record now stands at five wins and eight placings from 30 starts.

Yarraman Park have sold full brothers to Express Win by Catbird from the Sir Tristram (IRE) mare Pine Lodge Lady at Magic Millions for the last two years in 2007 for $100,000 to Asian Bloodstock Services and in 2008 to Geoff Woodruff for $80,000.

Pine Lodge Lady produced a colt by Magic Albert last spring.
