South Africa, July 3 – Yarraman Park had every reason to celebrate following the running of the Group I Golden Horseshoe Stakes at Greyville in South Africa on the weekend with the winner Fighting Warrior a son of Magic Albert and the runner-up Mushreq, foaled and raised at Yarraman for Shadwell.

Run over 1400 metres for two year-old colts and geldings,  the Golden Horseshoe featured several Australian bred runners and two of them settled down to fight out the finish and fill the quinella (pictured courtesy www.sahracing.com) with Fighting Warrior prevailing to win by a head from Flying Spur colt Mushreq.

Mushreq looked to have the race won near home, but Fighting Warrior powered home late on the inside to snatch a narrow win.

Prepared by Ivan Moore, Fighting Warrior jumped out of the ground to produce a career best performance, his overall record now two wins and a second from six starts.

A $15,000 purchase from the Attunga Stud draft at the 2009 Magic Millions Weanling Sale, he was re-offered during Session Five at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale in 2010 fetching $29,000.

Fighting Warrior is the third South African winner from the Wallenda (USA) mare Dark Blue, a half-sister to Kiwi Group I winner Prussian Blue.

Fighting Warrior is the 12th stakes-winner for Magic Albert and is his fourth Group I winner joining Magic Cape , Albert the Fat and Ilovethiscity, the son of Zeditave booked out this spring at a fee of $16,500.

Racing in the famous blue and white colours of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, runner-up Mushreq was bred in Australia by Shadwell and foaled and raised at Yarraman Park.

Consigned to the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Yarraman, he was bought back at $350,000 for Shadwell and sent to South Africa in August last year and given to Mike de Kock.

Mushreq is a half-brother to Macau stakes-winner Jazza Bell being from stakes-placed Jeune (GB) mare Alharir, a half-sister to the dam of Group I winner Rewaaya from the family of Snippets and Forensics.

Yarraman Park have enjoyed a hot run of stakes success in recent weeks with stakes-winners consigned and sold by the farm including Speed Baby (Singapore), Sichuan Success (Hong Kong) and Born to Rock (Australia).
